Today we want to talk about cannabis Laws in Canada. Cannabis/marijuanna had been legalized in 2018 by the government of Canada. The Cannabis Act amended the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to regulate the sale and possession of cannabis in Canada. It allows Selling cannabis. but only by authorized provincial retailers.

Adult people can have up to 30 grams of cannabis in public. you should know that having more than 30 grams of cannabis is an offence. In addition, you can have up to 4 cannabis plants in your home. Importantly, having illicit cannabis is an offence. it means that you can only have cannabis that is bought from a cannabis store approved by the province.

in addition , If you are growing cannabis, the seeds cannot be from an illicit source either.

It is important for you to know that operating a vehicle while under the influence of marijuana is an offence and it will be treated the same by the law and the judicial system as impairment by alcohol.

although the possession of marijuana is technically legal, there are still a number of restrictions you must stand by. According to Canada Statistics in :

  • There were 181 incidents of having illicit cannabis or over 30 grams of cannabis
  • There were 1,868 incidents of the importation and exportation of cannabis

According to the Canada drug Statistics , Cannabis possession charges were decreasing.

importation and exportation charges were also increasing. possession of cannabis was still the most rampant drug offence in 2018. It is important to note that the Cannabis Act was only implemented halfway through the year.
